What are Properties of Solutions?

Solutions are homogeneous mixtures with uniform composition throughout.

They consist of solutes dissolved in a solvent. Solute + Solvent = Solution

Particles in a solution are very small (nanometers or nm) too small to be seen with the naked eye.

Example: Sugar dissolved in water forms a solution that is transparent and homogeneous.

What are Alloys?

Alloys are homogeneous mixtures of two or more metals or a metal and a non-metal. They are formed to enhance properties like strength, corrosion resistance, and conductivity.

Example:

  • Bronze is an alloy composed of copper and tin, known for its strength and resistance to corrosion.
  • Steel made by combining iron with carbon
  • Brass composition of copper and zinc

Stainless steel is composed of chromium or nickel, carbon, and iron.
